TransparencyJustcroft International has partnered with Schlumberger to provide output of PDF and CGM files from within Petrel

Schlumberger have been working in partnership with Justcroft International, a leading image manipulation and plotting software provider, to allow plots to be generated from within Petrel in more industry-standard formats.

The result is a seamless, user friendly approach that converts Petrel EMF outputs to either PDF or CGM without the user having to leave the Petrel interface. Simply display your plot in Petrel, select the desired format and destination, and that’s it.

JustCGM is also the preferred plotting solution for Petrel

Our developers have been working with Schlumberger's developers in Oslo for 3 years now on the integration. There is no need for an Ocean "Plug in" since the use of JustCGM is actually built into the Petrel code.

JustCGM is fully supported on a world-wide basis

Justcroft International provides all Schlumberger Petrel Support Offices with a copy of JustCGM so enabling local support staff to gain knowledge and experience of the product. This will enable them to give presentations of JustCGM to potential customers and also give some first-line support. Full support is always available directly from Justcroft International.

Create CGM files from within Petrel

Create CGM files from within Petrel. CGM is the de-facto standard within the Oil and Gas industry.

CGM files are created according to the version 3 standard.

Create vector PDF files from within Petrel

The PDF files are created according to the 1.4 standard. Fonts selected within Petrel are defined in the PDF file. The True Type fonts which are defined and selected in the Petrel image are also placed in the PDF file. Lines in the Petrel image are also placed as lines in the PDF file. Since nearly everybody has Acrobat Viewer on their PC it is a multi platform solution to exchange the Petrel output. Another advantage of PDF files is that they can more easily pass through companies’ firewalls.

Print your Petrel image without problems

Use JustCGM with the JustPlot Drivers to create high resolution Petrel images without losing elements or colour. You will see the image compared with the paper sizes.

Print or convert the Petrel image with a transparent area

Print the Petrel image with a transparent area on an HP DesignJet plotter or export the image to a PDF file.

Transparency allows you to post the cultural data (regional outlines, etc.) on top of navigation and seismic interpretation/geological models in a map view.

Import Petrel images into MS PowerPoint

Use JustCGM with the CGM Optimiser to import the Petrel images into Microsoft PowerPoint. After ungrouping the image you will be able to select, delete and change attributes of lines and text.

Ungrouping an imported EMF file from Petrel within PowerPoint will not be successful because clipping elements are not supported. However, JustCGM's CGM Optimiser module replaces these elements with elements that are supported.

Use the Petrel Process manager to create PDF files in batch and then merge them using JustCGM

How to generate PDF in batch

  1. Activate a plot view in Petrel.
  2. Set-up a workflow in the Process Manager, e.g. plot all horizons in the 3D grid.
  3. In the Utility section of the Process Manager add the command to the appropriate position in the workflow.
  4. Ensure that the desired file extension is added to the file path.
  5. Within JustCGM you can select the Merge PDF option by selecting the Batch Processor command from the Tools menu.
  6. Select the directory which contains the PDF files and sort them before making a single multi page PDF file.

Use the new resolution option within Petrel 2007.1 to create high resolution seismic images

The Schlumberger and Justcroft developers have improved the seismic output for Petrel 2007.1.

There are two new options to create seismic images with a seismic image larger then the 1000 x 1000 pixel limitation.

Within Petrel 2007.1 you can disable the "Limit size of seismic bitmaps output to printers/metafiles" option by selecting the System settings command from the Tools menu.

The second solution within Petrel 2007.1 is that the default "Limit size" setting of 1000 can be overruled with another value by selecting the System settings command from the Tools menu.
